This weekend CounterPlay hosted Global Cardboard Challenge as a part of Aarhus Mini Maker Faire.
We created a setting in which children and families could create, build, paint a supermarket out of old cardboard and paint.
We supplied the theme “Create a supermarket and everything that you would like to buy in a supermarket”. We supplied materials. Cardboard, lots of cardboard and even more cardboard – collected at the local recycling centre – knives, paint and brushes. And we supplied people who developed the idea, built a frame in advance and where a part of the event for two whole days.
And the kids and their families took over the place and built and created small things, wild things, big things. Some carried big installations home and others left cardboard groceries in the supermarket.
And other kids just played in the supermarket – went through the entrance, bought groceries and had fun.
Global Cardboard Challenge is initiated by Imagination Foundation that aims to celebrate children’s creativity.
CounterPlay also wants to celebrate creativity and of course the playfulness – and what better way to celebrate playfulness than to let people have a lot of space, cardboard and time to play and create with cardboard. This is definitely not the last Global Cardboard Challenge that I organise.
Malene Holm who was the maker in residence at this event took all the beautiful pictures. The event was supported by Børnekulturhuset, Aarhus.
